That about 90% of heart attacks occur early in the morning and it can be minimized if one takes a glass or two of water NOT grog or beer before retiring in the evening.

That drinking water at the correct time maximizes its effectiveness on the Human body.

1 glasses of water after waking up – helps activate internal organs.

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal – helps digestion.

1 glass of water before taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure.

If you suffer from chronic pain you may have heard that for many people deep tissue massage provides relief that goes far beyond that can be gained temporarily through pain medications. You may have also heard that the massage technique itself is painful and so have shied away from trying deep tissue massage even though you know you need extra help. Here is a little more information about deep tissue massage and what it really is – and is not.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is a specialist massage technique that focuses on realigning the muscles and connective tissues at a level that goes deeper than the surface skin layers. The strokes used are slower and the pressure applied is deeper than it is the case with massage that is performed for relaxation purposes and the massage is focused on the areas that are experiencing the chronic pain.

Wherever there is chronic muscle tension or injury one of the biggest problems is that there are usually adhesions present – bands of rigid tissue that are in themselves painful. Deep tissue massage works by actually breaking down these adhesions which will not only help relieve pain but over time will help restore more normal movement as well. In order to do that a trained deep tissue massage therapist will use direct deep pressure applied across the “grain” of the affected muscles and tendons.

So How Much Will Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?

At certain points during a deep tissue massage a patient will very often experience some discomfort – and yes at times a little pain. You should not be left crying in pain though, if the levels are above what you can tolerate you should always let your massage therapist know so that they can adjust the technique a little to make you more comfortable. There may also be a little lingering discomfort for a short while after the massage is over but for many people the relief from the chronic pain they experience afterwards makes it all worthwhile.

Deep tissue massage is very effective for relieving some of the most troublesome and hard to treat forms of chronic pain – lower back pain, osteoarthritis pain, pain from older sports injuries and even fibromyalgia pain, something that is notoriously hard to treat effectively using conventional medicine. It can also be effective in relieving the pain caused by repetitive stress disorders like carpal tunnel as well as for simply relieving muscle tension that can often cause horrible pain that pain medications just do not “touch”.

When many people think about massage therapy they tend to think its a luxury that is reserved only for those who head off to some swanky spa somewhere once or twice a year. But massage is not a luxury, if you want to be healthier and happier its practically a necessity. Why? Here are just seven things about massage you may not have known – but everyone should.

Massage Can Provide Great, Natural Pain Relief

Chances are that you have heard that general muscular aches and pains, joint stiffness and even sometimes pinched nerves can be alleviated by massage. What you may not know is that massage can also help relieve migraine pain, chronic back pain, arthritis pain, even menstrual pain – and those are just a few of the conditions it can help alleviate!

Massage Improves Your Circulation

Regular massage helps improve your circulation and helps your body deliver more much needed oxygen to your blood cells while also encouraging the body to flush out toxins that can make you feel drained, ill and even make you fat!

Massage Helps Improve Flexibility

Massage can improve tissue elasticity which can in turn improve your flexibility and the range of motion you have in your joints. Anyone can benefit but athletes really find that a massage before, after, or even during their events, matches or training sessions can really help enhance their performance and reduce injury risks.

Massage Helps You Heal Faster

Massage helps relieve pain and swelling, promotes faster healing of injuries like strained ligaments and strained muscles and helps prevent the formation of painful scar tissue. Many doctors advise that their patients use massage to help them recover from certain surgeries or after they have been injured as a part of their overall rehabilitation plan.

Massage Can Help You Sleep Better

Most people find that they get a fantastic night’s sleep the day they go for a massage and the benefits can last for days afterwards.

Massage is Good for Your Brain

In addition to the amazing stress relief a good massage can provide your brain function can benefit in other ways as well. Massage helps improve your ability to think clearly and concentrate better, helps release suppressed emotions that may be holding you back from achieving your full potential and can even help reduce eye strain, which makes spending those eight hours at a desk staring at a computer screen far less harmful.

Massage is Great for Mums to Be

Looking for a great gift for a Mum to Be? Don’t buy her another package of babygros, treat her to a massage instead. Massage during a normal pregnancy is considered safe and effective and is a marvelous way to relieve all the nagging aches and pains that come along with pregnancy as well as a great way to relieve much of the stress and anxiety that all Mums to be have when they are expecting.

Massage Central Likens Massage To Looking After Our Car!

Most of us use our car numerous times a day. Some of us to get the family from A to B. Others need our cars to enable us to carry out our business. Our car offers us protection from the elements such as the sun, rain, debris from the road and hopefully other vehicles. It transports us from place to place in relative comfort. Cars are an essential item in our lives today and most of us like to take care of this asset.

If we are responsible owners we regularly get the engine serviced, get the brakes checked, change the oil and replace our worn out tyres and sometimes have a need to get the panel work seen to. These are all things that we see to as a matter of necessity so that we can carry doing our business hassle free of car issue.

When it comes to our bodies we seem to have a huge capacity to take it for granted and many of us revert to ‘she’ll be right mate’. Many of us punish our bodies as if it’s our worst enemy. We use and abuse our limbs as though they were tools in the workshop with no regard for the wear and tear they are enduring, We ignore the warning signs of pain and keeping on pushing through hoping that it will go away on its own without any servicing from us. Not only do we abuse our worn out bodies during the course of our daily activities such as driving, sitting all day, bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and contorting our bodies into all types of positions to enable us to achieve a result we are after but we then go on to punish our bodies even more when many of us undertake our physical activities such as walking, swimming, golf, tennis, cycling, running and a myriad of many other enjoyable pastimes without any consideration for what our body is going through i.e. lack of stretching etc.

Why is then that we give more consideration to our car to ensure that all the joints and hinges are in good working other and maintained to a high safely standard than we give to our most valuable asset – our body, our health and our well being?

Why do we allow our bodies to become worn down and allow it to operate at below par and compensate for lack of proper movement such as turning our whole body to look behind us rather than turning just our head, neck and shoulders?

We believe its lack of education in the alternative health arena and that many people would prefer pop a pain killer rather than taking time out to think about an alternative course of treatment. There is the misconception held by many that massage is only to have when on holiday and that massage is a luxury.

Massage is medicinal…it is one of the keys to good health and wellbeing. Massage is essential and not a luxury.

Our Muscles Don’t Work In Isolation

Unfortunately our muscles do not work in isolation. When one muscles become tight it then pulls on another muscles which in turn pulls on another causing the domino effect of pulled muscles eventually pulling on the tendons and joints.

Muscles Don’t Work In Isolation From One Another!

Many of us know this feeling of tight muscles, do absolutely nothing about it and in fact get used to the feeling so that then becomes normal until we pull, rip or strain a muscle. Just like those who ignore the wear and tear on their car often resulting in break down or an accident as a result of neglect.

Massage is for everyone… from babies to the elderly. For the active and inactive alike. Massage has been around for thousands of years and is still as effective today was it was before Western doctors belittled the benefits, however today massage is undergoing a large revival in the medical profession as more and more doctors are willing to accept that not every ailment needs a pill.

Our Goal

Our goal with every client no matter how many times we have massaged them is to always work with you and not just on you” and so encourage you today to treat your body with as much care and attention as you give your well maintained car.

Q“How long should I wait to exercise after a massage or bodywork session?”A Exercising after a session can both increase muscle soreness and compromise the value of the soft-tissue work you’ve just received so it is best to avoid strenuous exercise activities such as running, weight lifting, high intensity aerobics, or power yoga classes. Light exercise such as moderate walking, gentle stretching, or swimming laps at an easy pace is okay for healthy individuals. The ideal is to allow yourself a recovery period of 24 hours. Sustained pressure on connective tissue during massages makes the tissue more gel-like. This is known as the thixotropic effect and the increased softness lasts about twenty-four hours, so high-intensity exercise may pull or move the tissue back to old patterns or even induce new strain patterns. To further reduce any bodywork-related soreness, drink at least two liters of water in the next twenty-four hours to hydrate and flush your system. Take a hot Epsom salt bath and drink gently calming teas such as chamomile or passionflower to facilitate sleep and reduce stress that is so commonly seen as a contributing factor in chronic muscle tension and soreness. If you’re dealing with an injury, these guidelines would have to be adjusted, but these basic suggestions seem to work well for most of my clients.

I do find that healthy people who exercise vigorously five to six days a week sometimes find even these modest recommendations quite challenging. If you’re one of these people, I recommend you work out before your session and then take it easy afterward.”

Water not only prevents us from becoming dehydrated but is also a vital chemical that our body needs to lubricate the joints, accounts for 22% of bones, assists the body to remove wastes, makes up 83% of blood, regulates body temperature, composes 75% of the brain, helps to carry nutrients and oxygen to the cells, moistens oxygen for breathing, helps to convert food into energy, protects and cushions vital organs, makes up 75% of muscles. Without water cells cannot grow, reproduce or survive. The body can survive for weeks without food but only a few days without water.

A good rule of thumb is to drink a litre of water per very 25KG of your weight. I would suggest you start drinking early in the morning so that you are not up all night peeing!

Even though getting a massage is an increasingly popular way to alleviate pain and stress, very little work has been done to understand the molecular underpinnings of this healing process.

METHODOLOGY:

Researchers led by McMaster University scientists Justin Crane and Mark Tarnopolsky documented the biological changes that massage evokes in 11 young men who pushed themselves to exhaustion on a stationary bike by analyzing their leg-muscle biopsies prior to the exercise, immediately after 10 minutes of massage, and after a 2.5 hour recovery period.

RESULTS:

The participants’ thigh muscles showed microscopic tears and inflammation, but just 10 minutes of pushing and kneading reduced signs of inflammation. Massaged muscle cells were also better able to make new mitochondria, which promote faster recovery from exercise-induced muscle damage. Interestingly, the popular belief that massage helps clear lactic acid from tired muscles proved false.

CONCLUSION:

Massage speeds up muscle healing by activating molecules that reduce inflammation and promote mitochondrial growth.

IMPLICATION:

Most pain medications may be replaced by massage therapy since it blunts muscle pain by the same biological mechanisms.

SOURCE:

The full study, “Massage Therapy Attenuates Inflammatory Signaling After Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage,” is published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.

Massage for stress, anxiety and depression

Experts have estimated that ninety per cent of disease is stress related, and that nothing ages us faster, internally and externally than high stress levels. Eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic but massage can without a doubt help to manage stress, anxiety and depression.

Just some of the benefits that result from massage apart from decreased anxiety and depression is the stimulation of your immune system by increasing white blood cell counts, improves recovery after post-operative surgery and the enhancement of sleep quality. The list of benefits doesn’t stop there as massage also generates greater energy, improves concentration, increases circulation, improves mobility and can help to relieve gastrointestinal issues. Arthritis sufferers note fewer aches, pains and less stiffness and burn injury patients report reduced pain, itching and again, anxiety.

Massage has been proven to cause the body to release many natural therapeutic mood and health enhancing chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin and to reduce the stress hormone cortisol which kills cells important for immunity and is also responsible for moodiness and aggression.

Massage as a form of self care can play a huge part in how healthy and youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health and well being, and not just a self indulgent treat.

Professional therapist Louise da Costa provides specialist, qualified massage services in rooms or via her Massage Central mobile service. Many Massage Central clients have reported relief from years of pain and suffering and a plethora of glowing testimonials can be found on her website.

Louise is currently offering an introductory offer of 1.5 hour bodywork massage for just $75 for mobile for in-room services. Phone 043 926 4445 to arrange an appointment or visit www.massagecentral.com.au or email louisemassagecentral@gmail.com
